Jump Rhythm Jazz Project: Getting There, an hour-long documentary on Jump Rhythm Jazz Project (JRJP), received four Emmy Awards from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences. Getting There was produced by HMS Media and first aired by WTTW11 on May 17, 2007.

The awards include:

The one-hour high definition special profiles the groundbreaking dance company founded by Ruth Page Award-winning choreographer and dancer Billy Siegenfeld. A deft combination of dynamic rehearsal footage, insightful interviews with the dancers, and beautifully restaged excerpts from the company’s repertory of dances introduces audiences to JRJP’s unique “rhythm-first" approach which emphasizes high-energy, full-bodied rhythm-making.

Since 1990, JRJP has thrilled audiences and students nationally and internationally with a rich blend of percussive musicality and emotion-charged dance theatre. The documentary builds on a rich collaboration between HMS Media and JRJP to capture Siegenfeld’s trademark Jump Rhythm Technique through on-camera performance and social commentary and showcase a dance form that celebrates the joy of what it means to be exhilaratingly alive.

Emmy Award-winning Jump Rhythm Jazz Project will be live, in concert at Northwestern University December 6-8 at 8:00 PM. In addition to the performance on Friday, December 7, the company will host a benefit, “Swingtime in Winter”, immediately following the show.
