The Summer Intensive in Jump Rhythm Technique
June 17 - 22, 2012
and The Teen Workshop
June 18 - 22, 2012

Jump Rhythm Jazz Project is excited to announce our annual Summer Intensive in Jump Rhythm Technique®, an innovative, nationally and internationally recognized system of dance training that emphasizes full-bodied rhythm-making – transforming the moving body, accompanied by the scat-singing voice, into a rhythm-accurate percussion instrument.

Running June 18 – 22, 2012 daily classes will include Jump Rhythm Technique, Standing Down Straight®, an energy efficient, body-healthy approach to movement study developed by founder and artistic director Billy Siegenfeld, Jump Rhythm Tap, company repertory, and POW!: American Rhythm Dancing and the African American Performance Aesthetic (film-discussion course).  There will be an orientation meeting and tap placement class the evening of Sunday, June 17th.  All classes will by taught by Billy and other members of the Emmy Award-winning Jump Rhythm Jazz Project.

The Intensive and Workshop will take place
Monday through Friday, June 18-22 2012,
at Northwestern University's Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center

The Adult Intensive

The Teen Workshop

Available to: Intermediate to advanced level dancers; dance teachers of diverse age groups and styles; and tap-dance, percussive-dance, and physical-theatre artists who are interested in deepening their rhythmic approach to dancing, theatrical movement, and vocalizing.
Minimum Age: 18


An Orientation and tap placement class will occur on the evening of Sunday the 17th.

Intensive dancers participate in five daily classes:
Standing Down Straight ™: A Gravity-Directed, Movement-Efficient Approach to Mind-Body Awareness
Jazz: Jump Rhythm Technique™
Tap: Jump Rhythm Tap
Repertory: Dances of Jump Rhythm Jazz Project
POW!: American Rhythm Dancing and the African American Performance Aesthetic (film-discussion course)

The intensive will be led by JRJP founder and Artistic Director Billy Siegenfeld, along with company members.

Performance Opportunity: There will be a culminating student performance on the evening of Friday, June 22nd.


Tuition: $550 ($450 if enrolled by May 1st)
Due June 3, 2011

Parking: A Weeklong Parking Pass may be purchased for $41.25

APPLICATION
Applications can be sent by mail or via email. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due with registration.  The deposit will be applied to total tuition.  Please include a personal dance history/bio or resume with your application.

All Intensive attendees must complete a Waiver Form. This can be returned to us in advance or at orientation on Sunday, June 17, 2012.

Limited number of scholarships are available (see below).

Housing: Campus housing is unavailable to individuals under 18; please contact JRJP if you are an out-of-town student wishing to attend the Teen Workshop.
